Hw1 - Storyboarding and Pitching

Hey everyone and welcome to UCBUGG (officially)! This week’s homework will be focused on turning your stories into storyboards and pitches.

Optional Reading (highly encouraged): Introduction to Pre Production

Assignment

Install Google Drive for Desktop

• Download Google Drive for Desktop

Create Storyboard

• Develop your story: exposition → rising action → climax → falling action → resolution
• Create storyboards:
  • 15-20 storyboards!
  • Focus on the action, do not finalize your character / environment designs yet. However, indicate the background when necessary
  • Rectangular format, one panel per slide
  • Feel free to use these storyboard templates!
  • Submit as a .pptx or .pdf (download it from Google Slides if you choose to use Google Slides)
  • Restrictions:
    • MAX 3 characters
    • No humans
    • No 2D/Live Action or stop-motion animation
    • Original characters only

Pitching

• Practice your pitch:
  • Must be 30 seconds!
  • Practice makes perfect! Be confident, speak clearly, and consider emoting your story. Get excited!
  • Don’t cram too much in verbally, let your boards speak for themselves
• Introduce yourself in the introductions channel on Discord!

Attention

Your pitch should be 30 seconds MAXIMUM! Facilitators will be timing your pitches next week during class to ensure this!

If you would like a critique and submit your pitch and storyboards early and on time, post your work in the help channel on Discord

Shot Progression

Watch this video on shot progression from Pixar and take notes on what you learned/thought was interesting! Then, post those thoughts on the appropriate Discord channel. Please have your responses in the Pixar Hoppers Shot Progression thread in #discussion. Minimum, 2 sentences. Additionally, respond to 2 other students either adding on, or providing any additional context

Write at least 2 sentences about something you learned or found most interesting from the video and respond to at least 2 other students
